London
18 WATT (2xEL84), Tube rectified, 12AX7, EF86, Tremolo
I cannot imagine dreaming up something more perfect... - Matthew SweetEvolved from some of the mid-sixties best low-powered amplifiers. The 2xEL84, Cathode Biased, Class A sound is that of astonishing warmth, depth, and harmonic richness all in a small package that allows big-amp sound on small stages, in the studio or at home. The London takes the classic 2xEL84 vocabulary and pushes it way beyond all predecessors. With the distinct tones of two very different '60s 18 Watt amps in one package, the London offers 2-amps-in-one and allows a greatly increased vocabulary.
This is the "go to" amp for countless studio musicians, producers, and sidemen who need a big, rich British sound in a small package. The London survived the '18 Watt wars' of a few years ago and has become the standard for the 2xEL84 genre. It's widely used on dozens of major tours, major label recordings, and is a frequent guest on national TV shows.
Trem channel - 12AX7 based with a single tone knob and an organic Bias tremolo activated by a footswitch. This channel is the one for many of your classic British tones from your favorite blues and rock records.
Colour Channel - EF86 (pentode) based with a tone knob and 6-way color switch that adjusts the mid focus. This channel is reminiscent of the British Invasion sound until you push it hard via the Booster Switch and then if flips into ultra-rich, harmonic saturation that defines modern day boutique amplifiers.

Guitar World
"...The London 65 reflects the builders' exceptionally solid comprehension of tone, dynamics, innovative circuit design, and simply how important an amplifier is in inspiring great music. With the capable, hands-on involvement of Peter Stroud, Dan Boul, and Mercury Magnetics, 65amps has succeeded in creating an amplifier that simply sells itself with every note played. Knowing the people behind the company as well as we do, we're hardly surprised."
Tonequest Report

'Back here in my cave, I found the amp so immediately responsive that my first thought was that it was really as much like an instrument as an amp. But the most glorious thing is that guitar after guitar I try, each can find its own sweet spot tone, and I've found usually many more than one per guitar.
As you guys know, it's really difficult to find an amp that sounds good with everything. The range of tone possibilities between the two very differently voiced channels includes everything I like! This one really makes me feel I'll no longer have to "settle" for next to perfection. I cannot imagine dreaming up something more perfect for playing live these days, when everyone onstage (as well as the instinctually guitar-hating "soundman") gets pissed because even a single AC-30 seems too loud (p***ies!:)' -- Matthew Sweet
TOP 11 "I don't know much but I know what I like" reasons I love my 65-LONDON amp 1. It accentuates the tonal individuality of each guitar.
2. The volume control acts like a tone control...I don't even know what that means but I hear 5 different tones between 0-5 on the volume control with the same pickup.
3. Very dynamic'right hand sensitive...I don't feel like I have to beat on it to get it to sound energetic, exciting and explosive so that it jumps out of a track.
4. The color control/volume control combinations seem infinite.
5. Any compressor, stomp box or 1176 seems to make it sound WORSE...That alone speaks volumes to me
6. When I plug straight in with a Les Paul, turn the volume on 8-10 and play a solo, it makes me feel like the guitar god that I definitely am not.
7. With the volume turned up I can put thirds in chords and hear every note clearly.
8. Very quiet operating level even with volume on 10
9. Rich creamy harmonic content...2 notes played together sound like 5...lots of detail
10. It doesn't weigh a ton
11. People who have never even made mention of tone hear it in the headphones and ask me what I'm playing through. True
